Toni V. Sweeney "Last night I dreamed I died and went to Hell," I said as I climbed out of bed.
"Who says it was a dream?" My husband ripped off his face as if it were a mask, revealing the devil's countenance beneath it.
Toni V. Sweeney The world of P.G. Wodehouse and Bertie Wooster, early 20th century England. I'd follow Bertie around and enjoy his one-liners.
Toni V. Sweeney I review books for the New York Journal of Books and am plowing through my TBR list for them. Currently, I'm ready a new Scott Turow novel Testimony. This books was unsolicited and sent directly from the publisher. I also have Devil's Call by J. Danielle Dorn and Afterlife by Marcus Sakey which is going to be made into a movie so I want to finish the novel before I see the film. I also have Bill Schweigart's new novel The Devil's Colony. I've reviewed Bill's two other novels and can't wait to read this one. He'd mentioned to me that he was writing a trilogy. That should take me through August, at least.
Toni V. Sweeney It already has. See A Bit of the Dark World. My heroine is in an automobile accident in which her husband is killed and shortly afterward discovers she's pregnant. There's fear at what the accident may have done to her unborn child. Same here, except my husband didn't die in the accident. Everything came out HFN, but sometimes when he misbehaved, I'd think my son was a bit like Robbie in my novel, however. :)
Toni V. Sweeney I'm afraid I'll have to be a little prejudiced here and say a couple of my own creations are my favorite couple: Sinbad sh'en Singh and Andrea Talltrees. They fuss, they fight...but they definite love each other. My series takes Sin and Andi from young to late adulthood, through children to great-grandchildren, and everything that entails, while at the same time, they're having their own adventures on and off-planet. Andi's bossy and likes to have her way and though it irks Sin something awful, he loves her for it because he doesn't want a woman he can bully. They are opposites but they definitely attract, each making up what the half that forms them as a whole and a complete couple.
Toni V. Sweeney I hate to admit it but at this precise moment, I'm not writing. I've apparently overloaded myself with promotional work for Class Act Books, as well as doing reviews for the NY Journal of Books, Paranormal Romance Guild, and private book reviewing. I've a list of titles I need to write and as soon I as get myself back into gear, I think the next one will be to finish A Thousand Burning Days. It's a romance about a retired male cover model who is now teaching at a very conservative private school and finds his present life disrupted when the student newspaper publishes an "exclusive" of what their favorite teacher used to do for a living.
Toni V. Sweeney I had written two Westerns about Nebraska (NEBRASKA: Walk the Shadow Trfail and NEBRASKA: Vengeance from Eden) and was working on a third when I realized I'd made so many references to other members of the family the hero was from I needed to write about them also. The stories turned into "The McCoys," and became a 7-novel series before I finished. That involved doing some editing on the original novel, which became book 3 when I finished.
Toni V. Sweeney I write...making lists, recipes, Sometimes I go back and edit fragments I've written and then saved for "later." Anything to keep the keys on the keyboard, until abruptly, I find myself eased back into the story again.
Toni V. Sweeney By being observant. A phrase...disliking the ending to a movie...seeing something happen...all can lead to a novel.
Toni V. Sweeney Develop a thick skin and a lot of determination. Making friends with an English teacher who knows grammar won't hurt.
Toni V. Sweeney Writing takes you away from the everyday h...to paraphrase the Calgon advertisement. You can go anywhere anytime the money you strike that first key.
