Renee Riva I pick a scene anywhere in my story that I feel like writing--even if it's out of sequence--I worry about that later but I can generally get excited about writing a fun scene and know I can insert it where it needs to go. Sometimes I write the ending because I get excited about how it's going to end.

Renee Riva Write what you love and don't let barriers stop you from writing. Give what you write as gifts to family and friends so you feel you are sharing your gift with others. If you become serious as a writer, attend writing conferences to lean how to get to the next step as the market changes so rapidly and conferences can help you navigate the market best.
Renee Riva I'm writing "Jackson's Treasure" about a young lady in 1905 who runs away from an arranged marriage betrothal and stows away on a pirate ship. She is discovered by Captain Jackson who is a French descendant of Jean Lafitte. It is kind of sweet, kind of a comedy, and I really like both of my main characters and hope my readers will too. It should be out in December 2017.
Renee Riva Either by a good memory or a touching story I hear in real life, or sometimes I do something so embarrassing that I think--this would really funny if it happened to someone else--then I decide to make it happen to a character in my story so I can can laugh at it happening to someone besides me.
Renee Riva In Chance of Rain, my bride get left at the altar and decides to go on her honeymoon anyway--by herself. I got this idea from a friend of mine who was on a hike in Hawaii and met a nice young man who was hiking along the same trail. It turned out he told her he was on his honeymoon alone after his wife backed out of the wedding. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if that jilted partner met someone else while honeymooning alone who turned out to be a nicer and better match than the one who left them at the altar?"
