Kathy L. Wheeler Hi, Mariia. The first book I wrote was the first in my Cinderella Series, The Wronged Princess. At the time I had it titled: The Shoe the Other Foot Fit. It was only 13k words. I joined the Oklahoma Chapter of RWA (who had some big time members: Sharon Sala, PC Cast, Merline Lovelace, Gena Showalter) and a few others. At my first meeting the room was packed. Needless to say, I was really intimidated. When we went around the table to introduce ourselves, I couldn't say book. I referred to my book as a story. I think it took another year. After I wrote Quotable, and then Maybe It's You, from the Bloomington series. Then I started to believe I was a writer.
Though, one thing that hit me right off. After I wrote the first book, I knew writing was for me. I now have 15 published, and since the pandemic, I've written 8 more. So I'm in the middle of a huge rollout for the Regency series: Rebel Lords of London.
Kathy L. Wheeler I have 12 books out (actually 13, but 1 is not associated with my name...) . Most of which were written while I was working full time. So my advice is that if you love to write, you will find the time to get it done. I've written blog posts regarding this subject. It's called "sit your ass in the chair". Writing is the hardest job ever, because if you aren't big, you aren't making money. But passion puts the words on the page. And the biggest secret of all? You can't edit, publish, sell a blank page.
Kathy L. Wheeler Sorry for taking so long to answer....but this year (2015), the best thing about being an author is that I get to write full time. My husband is an attorney and sole proprietor. I was laid off from my full time programming position in March and we talked it over and decided I would help answer his phones and get through as many projects as I can to see if it works. And I'm thrilled to say that I've completed almost 3 since March, and have another 2 due by the end of December... So yayayaya me!
Kathy L. Wheeler What's that? Um, I don't suffer from that affliction to date....:)
Kathy L. Wheeler Actually, writing inspires me. The more I write, the more I want to write.
Kathy L. Wheeler Currently, I'm working on a Sweet Historical that will appear with six other authors, due out April 14, 2015. The anthology, To Love a Spy, will have my book, The Mapmaker's Wife. (That's a working title, right now). Under my name of Kathy L Wheeler.
Kathy L. Wheeler I am currently working on book iv of my Cinderella Series, The Price of Scorn. Where the other three books in the series are regarding the Cinderella and what happens when her glass slipper slides onto the foot of her batty-eyed stepsister, Esmeralda, and how the three become friends. Book iv take a decidedly different turn, in addressing how and why Cinderella's mother is so mean and evil. The story is a sad one, and does not have your typical happily-ever-after. I mean, how could it? She's awful, but in this book we learn where that turn took place.
