Paw Paw Stevens - I hope to have it out by the end of summer. Life has a way of slowing down my writing, but I'm working through it each day. I think where Ambrose is now (in book two) is interesting, and where he goes after the second book has potential for many new stories.

The future of Star Trek. It shows the potential of humanity.

I try to write early in the morning, when my mind is still clear and all the duties of the day haven't gotten in the way yet.

There are so many, and this would be like picking my favorite child, but there are a few that have stuck with me. A Walk Across America, by Peter Jenkins is probably my favorite non-fiction book. For fiction, maybe Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through it. Maclean was a poet first, and it shows in his novel.
I've been influenced as a writer, and as a person, by dozens or maybe even hundreds of books. Hemingway has influenced me. So has Fitzgerald. Kerouac always blows me away. Everything Marly Youmans writes is gold. I'll never write like her, but that's okay, because her writing comes from a place I'm not sure I'll ever reach. Ron Rash is another writer who has the ability to take a good story and turn it into poetry. Like I said, there are so many books and writers I love, and like my children, I love them for different reasons.

A thousand different places and events.

Read every day. Write every day. After that, discipline.
Scott Thompson
Editing the previous day's writing helps kick-start a new writing day. Writing is hard, but if you want to produce anything larger than a short story or a poem you have to practice discipline. When I'm working on a manuscript I work at least five to six days per week, no matter what.

I have a completed manuscript I'm shopping around. It's a story about a low country South Carolina man who dies, but before he can enter Heaven he must deal with the regrets and horrors of his life. It's not a story about Heaven. It's a story about love, friendship, and family.
