Brian W. Matthews Hi, Frank. I hope you enjoy Revelation. I'm proud of it, and the initial feedback has been quite positive. I'm looking forward to what you think.
Brian W. Matthews The idea for Revelation happened in the summer of 2013, when I visited Italy. I was standing in St. Peter's Square, marveling at the sheer size of the cathedral, and the basic premise for the novel popped into my head.
Brian W. Matthews You aren't inspired to write. Writing inspires you. If you have it in you to write, you will find inspiration. If you don't, go do something else. Life's too short to work at something you don't love.
Brian W. Matthews I'm about sixty thousand words into my next novel, tentatively named Emersville. It isn't a Forever Man novel. After two novels and four years of work, I needed a break from Bart Owens.
Brian W. Matthews Write a lot, and understand that what you write at first will be crap. Don't get discouraged. Keep writing until your crap gets better. Then keep writing more. And READ. Read in your genre. Read outside your genre. Read good as well as bad. Those two activities will help you become a good writer.
Brian W. Matthews Meeting other authors is one. The writer community is wonderful. And talking with fans would be up there, too. Oh, and creating memorable characters.
Brian W. Matthews The only way I know how: push through the block. The only exception is where I've run into plot problems. Those blocks do not go away. I have to look at how the scene is structured and make a change or two.
