I was half way through a book when I heard about the Terry Pratchett prize, which meant I had to change the story to make it fit. And I didn't have much time. I jigsawed a new book idea onto the preexisting on. 'Half Sick of Shadows' won the prize (half of it, actually). Readers get two books Frankensteined into one, and almost nobody knows what it's about because they haven't read Tennyson's Lady of Shalott.

'On the Slum's Foul Air' – follow up to 'Half Sick of Shadows' is with my publisher. While waiting for news, I'm tinkling a little tune on the keyboard called 'Bon Voyage Morty Chambers' (the book's called Bon Voyage Morty Chambers, not the keyboard).

I don't believe in writer's block. Eat properly. Get exercise. Sleep well. Avoid stress. Don't get pissed. Feed your brain. Do these, and regardless of what you do you'll do it better.
