B.C. Johnson Read what you love, then write what you read. What genre will you ALWAYS read, no matter what? Write in that genre - it'll keep your energy up, plus nobody knows the cliches better than you. You can dodge those landmines and provide the reader with a truly unique experience.
B.C. Johnson Bathrobes. Also, being the first reader of a brand new story. The best kinds of stories are the ones you tell yourself, and that's all a writer's job is. We want to read books that don't exist yet, so we roll up our sleeves and do our best.
B.C. Johnson Keep writing. It's a really lame answer, but it's completely true. "Writer's block" is really "writer's trip." What I mean by that is it's just a little stumble, usually caused by self-confidence or even just a bad day of writing. Get your feet and keep walking.

You think what your writing sucks, so you think you suck, so you sit quietly and contemplate your suckitude instead of just working. Every 1st draft sucks - you're part of a long, proud tradition. Hold on to that comfort and keep writing. You can fix it later.

You can't fix writing you never wrote, though.
