Read a lot and write a lot! Besides that, look into a local writing group. You can learn so much about the craft of writing and about the publishing industry. If there isn't a writer's group in your area, google Writer's Digest and read all of their articles and blog posts. You can find a wealth of information on that site. Good luck!

Like most writers, I started writing part-time and fit it in whenever I could. After work, weekends, late at night. I did that for a while until I eventually made the move to full-time writer. It's been a blessing, and I'm so grateful that I was able to make that change.

Now that I've recently written my first book, A Storm Rises, I'm gonna say- first book!! When you start something new there's so much plotting and planning involved which is way more than subsequent books. For me, anyway. Plus, a first book really needs to shine and grab readers. So there's this whole overriding pressure of wanting to fulfill that real expectation and the promise to deliver something incredible.

Stephen King! They guy is a legend and I'd love to pick his brain on, well, his brain! Where does he get his ideas? What inspires him? You know, that kind of thing. I've read his book, "On Writing", but if I could be in his space for a bit, I would be thrilled!

To date I've written and published 8 novels, 4 novellas, and 4 short stories. I'm excited to add to that list!

I have to say my favorite character is one that I'm writing now- Mateo Avila from A Storm Rises. He's filled with so much angst and turmoil. He is a "dreaded" Sublander and wishes for a better life for himself and his family. It's as if the entire fae world is against him. Of course, I'm rooting for him all the way!! But alas, some things are going to happen to him, as they do, and he has to figure out how to handle them.

Getting started!! And also, the first act. That's the hardest part of writing for me. Once I can get through that, the rest flows a lot easier.

For a new book, yes! There's tons of pre-writing and outlining to do. For subsequent, not as much. I'm also somewhat of a pantser, so that eliminates a lot of outlining. However, writing like this also expands my editing time. So it's a give and take.

My views on writer's block have really changed over the years. At first, a block would really knocked me off track. Now, I feel like a block is an opportunity to expand my story and/or characters. How? The first thing I do when I'm blocked is reach out to my writer friends and go over my storyline. I sometimes also put my writing aside and read something else, or watch a favorite show. Either way, these solutions always help and inevitably make my story that much stronger.

Eat chocolate!! lol But really, a plotline can sometimes really pack an emotional punch. When that happens, I have to let sit with me for a while. I can't put things like that aside easily. The most effective way to get "over" something that has happened, especially when it comes to a character's end, is to talk about it. My poor husband is such a good sounding board and he really helps with this.

Yes! And I think most writers will say the same thing. Writing, and also reading, has always been such a HUGE part of my life. I can't really imagine myself not being a writer. It completes me, lol.

I love audiobooks!! I usually have an e-book I'm reading on my laptop, a physical book on my bedside table, and a book I'm listening to on audio. For audio, I mainly listen when I'm showering and cooking. By doing it like this, I can get more reading in!

Right now I'm reading The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller. I've had the book on my TBR for a while and it's so so so good! If you want to hear me talk about it, you can check out this podcast that I'm on with my writer besties! https://bit.ly/3F7KFYe

Fantasy, either adult or young adult. I love the escapism, the magic, the wonder, and the tragedy of a good fantasy book. I also really love being immersed in a hero's journey. Bonus if there is a love story and a loyal and amazing group of allies. Sign me up for that!

Funny, easygoing, and loyal.

Going to the movies! The most recent movie I've seen is Blue Beetle, and it was fantastic!! I'm Hispanic, and the characters in the movie are Hispanic. Their story and their love for each other gave me all the feels!! I honestly felt like I was watching my own family. I laughed with them, and I cried with them. Man, did I cry!! Everyone needs to see this movie because it's amazing!

Oh my gosh, YES! The first character I "unalived" was a certain someone in Final Death, the third book in the Final Life Series. She was a favorite of mine, and a fan favorite to a lot of readers, so having her life tragically cut short was a huge shock. Also, it wasn't planned at all. But as the story developed, it took on a life of its own, and sadly this person's untimely demise just happened. A more recent person I "unalived" was a certain someone in Fae Hunted, the third book in the Fae Bloodlines Series. The scene in Fae Rising where this person realizes they are "unalive" is by far the most tragic scene I've written to date.

I would absolutely want to be the hero but would probably end up being a sidekick! I think I’d be the loyal and funny best friend who plays a big part in the hero’s journey. I’m a little bit clumsy, I like to charge into things without always thinking them through, and I say and do ridiculous stuff at times. BUT, I’m super loyal and crafty. I like to think I’m a little bit Samwise, a little bit Luna, and a little bit Manny. (Manny is Julio’s best friend and he’s so awesome!)

My favorite character is Julio Avila! He is the human who ends up being on the other side of the shimmer when Celyse peeks through. But he’s no ordinary human. He comes from a long line of Hispanic healers with their own special powers. He and many of his family members can also see spirits. I adore him and his family because they represent me and my Hispanic culture. Fun fact is this family is tied to my other series, the Final Life Series. In that series, one of the main characters is Trent Avila and he is Julio’s cousin!
