I've read a lot of writing books, and the best advice I received from one was to write for fifteen minutes every day. It seems silly but it really does work. If I spend fifteen minutes a day writing, then I don't need to waste time reviewing and figuring out where I left off the day before. Instead, the story is fresh in my mind, and I've been thinking about it in the meantime. Is what I write in that fifteen minutes spectacular? Not usually, but that's okay. I can fix it in a later draft.

My daughters worked at a local kayak shop during the summer, and their stories inspired me to write The Smallest of Waves. The seals and sea lions have been the long-running topic of local news stories, so I thought it would be fun and interesting to combine the two.
