Joseph T. Page II The most recent book was inspired by a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request I sent in to a government agency. The response I received was so... uninspiring, I decided to fill the gap with the historical materials I had on file.
Joseph T. Page II While this sounds pedantic, I start with exercise. Getting blood pumping through my brain tends to shake off the mental "icicles" that build up. A little while after a run, I'll start jotting a brain-storming diagram... a "brain-dump" of whatever topic I had block over.

If I'm still having trouble, I'll attempt to switch points-of-view - in the case of writing non-fiction, I'll ask myself, "What if [insert historical name here] read this? What would they want to see?"
