David Nelson I deal with writer's block, sometimes, by staring at my computer screen for a couple of hours. Other times, I just sit on my couch and stare off into space trying to organize my thoughts and the sequence of things that I'm trying to write. Sometimes, I just need to completely quit thinking about the book I'm working on and do something completely unrelated, like go for a ride on my motorcycle. Sometimes it takes a full tank of gas to clear my head.
David Nelson For me, the best thing about being a writer is that I get to tell my own stories. I get to do what I enjoy doing. Plus, it just gives me another excuse to do more reading, all in the name of research, of course. In my opinion, in order to be a good writer, one must first enjoy reading.
David Nelson My advice to aspiring writers is to write about what you know, what interests you, or what you're passionate about.
David Nelson Right now, I am working on Volume 4 of my Blaine Family Chronicles series, as well as the first volume of a new series. I also have several other projects that I have started, so I would have those ideas on paper, or rather, in their respective files on my computer.
David Nelson I began writing in 2008, but the book I started then didn't get finished until 2011. Up to that point, I didn't have any real encouragement. Since moving to Michigan a little over three years ago, I have published four books. After not being able to find a job after 2 1/2 years of searching, and even getting a college degree, I decided to invent my own job; I started writing books.
David Nelson The idea for my Blaine Family Chronicles series, of which A Long Road Ahead (Vol. 3) is the most recent, came from the fact that it's not science fiction, but a very real possibility. I just decided to write a fictional account of what could happen.
