Peter H. Green Read anything and everything you can get your hands on. Decide what you like to read best and write that kind of story, or improve on it. When you attempt to start writing, read Stephen King's On Writing, a very personal and very reall account of his strategy routine and key attitudes.
Peter H. Green My worst encounter with writer's block was in college, when I had to write a weekly paper for my Literature I seminar on classic works. We had read. Every Tuesday night I would trudge back to my dorm room after dinner, whether it was raining in New Haven or not (it usually was), with a personal storm cloud over my head, panicked over the fact that my 600-word paper was due at 1:45 p.m. the next day. I developed the habit, ready or not, of putting the paper in the typewriter by 10:45 a.m. and starting to type. Somehow, by 1:44 I always had my 2-1/2 pages complete, ready for my dash across the courtyard to class. Sometimes the work even earned a good grade. Throughout my life I got a reputaton for an uncanny ability to meet deadlines. And ever since, I've been able to sit down and start cranking. As Thornton Wilder told my mother, "The secret of writing is applying the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair."
