Characters in real life are always inspirational. I will overhear someone talking in a restaurant, or see a person with a particular smile that makes me think, or read about someone's struggle in real life, and off I go.

For me, the best thing about being a writing partner with my wife Cheryl (who is the actual writing talent) is getting to share my world (of medicine) that I love with all of our readers. Hopefully, as a bonus, we get to share some useful medical info as well.

We are currently working on a major rewrite and update of our novel 'A Killing Frost'. Part of the inspiration for this novel was when I (Dr. Melvin Hodde) actually cared for two of the FBI's Most Wanted as well as one of their victims. They all came in as victims of a major MVA and before I had finished treating any of them there were FBI agents all dressed in black everywhere in the hospital.

Cheryl and I are currently reading 'A Man Called Ove' for an online book club we are members of. We will be reading a different novel each month in addition to our own personal readings.
