Janet Freedman I don't think I've ever experienced true writer's block. What I have experienced is laziness and a strong resistance to sitting down and getting to work. When I was working on my master's degree, I would put off writing a long paper and then take 3 vacation days to write it because the deadline was looming. It is not s if I am that way all the time -- sometimes I approach writing joyfully -- but too often I resist. In my reading, I have noticed that this is not uncommon among author, so I set goals: 2 paragraphs, 3 pages - some structure to push myself to work.
Janet Freedman I just completed "Divine Intervention A Memoir" set in 1960's Baltimore when I lived in a shabby downtown apartment building. Here I met a group of creative and eccentric new friends - including not-yet-famous drag queen Divine –who helped me move past my restrictive upbringing, ditch my plain-Jane looks, and create a future that wasn't going to happen.
