Taira Soo The title comes from that feeling of being “almost fine” — the space between holding it together and falling apart. A lot of my life during that time lived in that in-between. I wasn’t crashing, but I wasn’t steady either. I was functioning, showing up, smiling…but underneath, everything was humming with fear, uncertainty, and change.

“Just a little buzzed” felt like the right way to describe that state — slightly off-center, a little unbalanced, but still moving. It’s not about alcohol. It’s about that emotional buzz you carry when life knocks you sideways and you’re doing your best to stay upright.

The book lives in that space — the almosts, the in-betweens, the quiet chaos that doesn’t look dramatic on the outside but completely shifts you on the inside.
Taira Soo I didn’t set out to write a book. I was trying to make sense of the mess — the diagnosis, the fear, the pieces of myself I didn’t recognize anymore. I wrote in small, sideways fragments because that was all I could handle. A sentence here, a moment there.

Somewhere along the way, I wrote myself into healing. Those little scraps became a map of how I found my way back to myself — not in a straight line, but in the honest, uneven way life actually moves.

I wrote because I needed a place to put the truth — somewhere honest enough to hold everything I couldn’t say out loud yet.

Eventually it stopped being just my story. It became connection — the quiet kind you find in the right sentence at the right moment. If someone gets that from the book, then the whole sideways journey was worth it.
