Brendan Lyons Honest answer? I don't. I do something else and try again later. Forcing it just results in bad writing. My advice: get a second hobby.
Brendan Lyons The precious few times I've gotten to hear, 'hey, are you the Brendan Lyons who wrote The Traveler? I loved your book.'

You might write for yourself, but you publish for others. Happy readers give me the warm fuzzies.
Brendan Lyons Buy my book...just kidding. Erm, you can write and live at the same time. In fact, I would say your writing is often as stale as the rest of your life. Find the inspiration to feel what your characters feel and it'll be a lot easier to convey it to the reader.
Brendan Lyons Well, I'm almost finished the sequel to my first book, so that's pretty exciting. After that, I have a sci fi comedy project I'm really excited about. I did the first draft about two or three years ago and haven't gotten back to it. It needs major rewrites, but it's so fun to work on, so I know it'll be a pleasure to work through.
Brendan Lyons Usually, it helps when I talk to someone else about the story. I've never been the type to get inspired by failure, but when someone shows an interest, I tend to get really excited about that. The trick is to remember that I'm always interested.
Brendan Lyons It started as just an exploration of my own loneliness during my first year of college. You can kind of see that at the start. More specifically, the idea popped into my head when I was walking across a snow covered field and just felt like I didn't really recognize anything around me, which was weird, because I'd crossed the field dozens of times by then. It was a surreal experience. When I got back to my dorm, I pretty much just wrote about it.
