I'd go to Elframe from Holly Black's Cruel Prince. I seriously want a magical weaponary...lol. It's magic system is just really simple and cool.

Uhmm, I'm not very good at horror. But here we go:
She steps into the office, clutching her resume to her chest like it would reduce the pounding under her ribs. It was dark...too dark for a summer afternoon. She opened her mouth to say hello and she heard it, the growl, the heavy breathes that seemed to raise the temperature of the office.
'where is it coming from.' She looked around, barely seeing much.
She heard it again, close this time...too close. Her heart imitated the shake in her hands and her pores opened up like cracks in a dam.
She turned around...
"ARRGH...!"
You said two sentences I wrote wayyyy more. Lol, was it good?
