I think writing is not just a job, but it's a calling. I didn't find writing; it found me. You have to have a thick skin in this business and the calling is what helps you hang in here when the hundredth rejection email comes into your inbox or the millionth word is circled for edits on the new manuscript. But if you hang in there, and you have a brand new book in your hand, it's all worth it.

To be honest, I don't get writer's block that much. I usually just pray and wait to hear from God what He wants to say and then write what I think He's saying. He's always speaking, it's just a matter of whether or not I am actually listening to what he has to say.

I get to be a part of the creative process that God intended for us as His children. I love the first chapter of Genesis where God turns nothing into something. That's miraculous! If we as Christians are supposed to be like Christ, and He can only do what He sees His father doing (John 5), then aren't we supposed to create something out of nothing too?

Write.
That would be my advice. Even if it just for twenty minutes a day; write anyway. Even if it's a bunch of nonsense; write anyway. Even if you just want to work out your feeling on an issue; write anyway.
Because nonsense, turns into thoughts, which turn into ideas, which turn into words, which turn into pages, which turn into books.

What am I not working on?=) I am currently working on a book about hospitality and it being an essential part of a disciple's spiritual growth.
I do ghostwriting/ collaborative writing as well and have two books I'm working on: one is a children's book about a girls' vision of heaven, and the other is a fiction novel about a man's struggle between his service in the Army and the lives he was trained to take and reconciling that with his new life as a pastor.
I also have a couple of ideas for future books as well.

My two new children's books "Mommy, Am I Beautiful?" and "Daddy, Am I Strong?" (available in October from Pauline Books and Media) came from real life experiences I had with my daughter and son. When my daughter was four years old, she would put on her Princess dresses and twirl around my husband and say "Daddy, Am I beautiful?" it was in that moment when I realize the cry of every little girl's heart is to hear their father tell them they are beautiful. This book teaches girls that their worth comes not from what they look like on the outside, but from the character traits they possess on the inside.
"Mommy, Am I Strong?" is based on y son who used to pretend he was a supehero and wrap our kitchen dishcloths around his neck like a cape and jump from couch to floor. This book teaches boys their strength comes from the inside not from the outside.
