Your individuality is your gift. Trust that voice inside that is guiding you in a certain direction even if everyone else is writing in a dystopian world filled with magical beasts. Your ideas are just as important as anyone else's.

I have two best things...1. I love connecting to the endless river of imagination within me. We all have an amazing source of creation within. Connecting to it and creating what didn't exist before is the best! 2. Writing helps me learn about myself. I write to figure out the puzzles of my life. It is a valuable tool for everyone, not just those who write as a profession.

Any block's I've had have been due to the fear of getting it wrong. So often I naively expect it to be perfect out of the shoot and that's just not how it works. I can easily spend two hours staring at my computer screen waiting for brilliance, but alas, brilliance never comes. I've learned I have to write badly first. Once I give myself permission to write badly, things start to flow. I tell myself "fingers on keys!" Sitting in front of my computer filing my nails is not writing. :)

I am half way into the first draft of Book Two of The Equal Night Trilogy, Alchemy's Air. It is even more intriguing than Ocean's Fire! Stay tuned!

Inspiration is everywhere so I write everywhere! I usually write at the breakfast table because it’s closest to all the snacks. I write on the deck when I need the inspiration of sunlight and I write in my office when I need the inspiration of the dark. It’s on the north side of the house. I write in the car; with a pen when I’m parked, dictated into my phone when I’m driving. I have to be ready to get it down quickly or the idea moves on and I’m left saying “it was brilliant but I can’t remember what it was.”
Music inspires me to be awesome in the literal sense of the word, truly awe-filled. I have made it my personal mission to seek out awe, which is another word for amazement. If I can be amazed and create amazement, it’s a good day. Music activates the muscle of my imagination, accessing the feelings in my soul no words can express. But I still try.

The Equal Night Trilogy was brewing for a long time! For three years I researched women's history, ancient history, and mythology. Historically women have been vastly underrepresented as the powerful lead. I saw a hole in women's literature that I hope to fill with strong women-mystical and otherwise.
