Tough one -- If I had assurance that I would be safe, I would definitely want to drop into the Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin. Basically, I just want to ride a dragon or a dire wolf.

I've always had dreams that come true, crazy intuition, and some strange spectral interactions. I always wondered why me? What the heck is going on here?
Never really thought about a book about it... no one would believe me if I tried to pass it off as nonfiction!

I've been mulling this over for a few days, and I think I'm going to go with Jace and Clary from The Mortal Instruments series. Not only are they SCORCHING together (I mean this literally... read the book!), they support each other, let each other fight their own battles, and love each other unconditionally. I'm fiercely independent very much like Clary, so when a male character can handle that well, he gains my respect.
They are amazing!

Good question! Do you outline? If so, how detailed do you go?
Usually, I have a good idea how I want things to end before I begin, so for me, it's not necessarily general furthering of the plot that I get hung up on, it's more how do I get from point A to point C?
Something that works for me in that case is writing out of order. There are always parts of the story I have planned out far in advance, and sometimes you just need to write what inspires you and fill in the blanks later.
Another piece of advice: join a writer's group. I'm very lazy on this front and only have two or three close friends who I bounce ideas off now and then. If you have a community to help you through it, they may have insight that you do not.
Hope this helps!

A lot of things came together to inspire The Separation, but one of the big things is the way that our society looks at gender roles. I wanted to write a story that shows just how ridiculous it is to force traditional gender roles on everyone. It does nothing but divide us and hurt both genders.
Take that, pair it with a love for fast-paced plots and BAM! You get The Separation.

I find inspiration everywhere. Most often, it's in other art - whether it be books, films, etc. When something touches my soul, it inspires me to try and emulate that feeling. Emotion converts into scenes, and then I'm writing again!

Right now, I'm editing my manuscript (book 2 in The Separation trilogy). Tough stuff, but well worth it when people remind me that they are patiently waiting for the sequel!

KEEP WRITING NO MATTER WHAT.
Seriously, if people are discouraging you, you need to tune them out. You don't need that negativity in your life. It will only hold you back.
And get out there! Join a writing group, go to open mics, attend conferences, and talk to other writers. You need a community to back you up, and we are out here ready and waiting to hold you up! Your craft can't get better if it's a secret.

I love creating characters. They become so real to me; for everything they go through, I feel like I'm right there with them. And when it's time to say goodbye, it's so hard to let them go!

If it's temporary - like a day or so - I let myself walk away from writing for a little bit.
If I'm having trouble for a long time, I just tough it out and push through. I wrote a whole blog on writer's block and how I deal with it here: http://stormycorrinrussellbooks.blogs...
