David Dresden Thanks for the question. Yes, that X account is me and I see we’re connected on there. Killer Quill looks fun!
David Dresden Hi Lori - appreciate the question. One of the most fascinating things I’ve ever learned is how the unconscious mind works. So much about this story comes back to that and how the unconscious influences the decisions in our lives while we’re not aware of it.

Then, there’s trauma, something that people face to varying degrees. I’ve always found cruel and unfair that a young person can experience major trauma and then they can’t get away from it for the rest of their lives. There is no relief, no freedom and they suffer for it. Often, society writes them off and they never get a chance to reach their potential.

I was thinking through these topics as story ideas and themes while on a simple jog one morning. The trail I was running on made its way through a dense forest which had the ruins of a stone house from eons ago. I stopped at the house to sip from a bottle of water. I noticed the foundation stones of the house and nearby was a circular stone pit of some kind. The idea for When Leaves Turn Red hit me just then.
