Ambiguity was inspired by current events. The conflict between religion and sexuality seems to be a never-ending battle. I wanted to take that conflict to the extreme. While the story is a murder mystery, I wanted to address the politics of religion and sexuality so the book explores that debate. It was a difficult and emotional book to write but I'm happy that it caused such a stir with readers. I've received many emails and comments on how the story made them think in different ways.

I never know where inspiration may come from. The story for my novel Bridge Water literally came from a street sign that I see almost every day in my neighborhood. I think anything can be inspiring. I never know where the muse may come from.

(view spoiler)[I'm working on a young adult thriller. As a writer I want to grow and evolve. I don't want to write the same story over and over again. I don't want to be formulaic so I'm writing something that I never thought I would write. I'm pushing my own boundaries, moving beyond my own comfort levels. The novel entitled Superstitious will be out in January of 2015. (hide spoiler)]

Keep writing. There are no rules. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If there were actual rules I'd certainly want to break them. Originality rarely comes from following guidelines. So write, write, write! Write in any way your heart and mind leads.

The simple answer would be that writing is simply a creative outlet, but I think for me the sense of playing God, having full control of my characters, caring about them, should they live, should they die...I think that aspect of writing appeals to me beyond just creativity but in a challenging, emotional way.

Literally I will make myself write, whether it makes sense or not; whether or not it is relevant to the story I'm working on. I look at it sort of like breaking the ice.
