Matthew Treya Another (this time true!) 2-sentence horror story.

“Let’s review your case,” said the young smiling doctor, spreading a folder on her lap in the cold examining room and, for the few seconds it took her to do so, he had a glimmer of hope.
Then, her face grew serious, and he heard her say the word “cancer.”
Matthew Treya “Is there a god?” she asked.
“No!” he replied.
Matthew Treya A toss-up but nothing too earth shattering. Sip cachaca with Gabriela in a small bar/cafe in Ilheus. (Jorge Amado). Or walk down a lane in the countryside with Tess in Wessex. (Thomas Hardy).
Matthew Treya Non-fiction! Whatever I can find (especially new) on Overdrive to listen to while walking or driving (yuck!). Just finished "The Stranger in the Woods," which was pretty good. I like a book that has a little "bite" to it. Probably why I couldn't even finish a page of Prince's ex-wife's story of him...What the heck was I expecting, anyway?
Matthew Treya The mystery of the thing called "death."
(PS Already the "plot" for the entire "Namaste Stories" series as well as "The Scent of the Violet." :-))
Matthew Treya I pondered the question mightily. Tolstoy's Dmitri Ivanovitch Nekhlyudov and Maislova (from "Resurrection")? Gabriela and Nacib Saad (from Amado's "Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon")? Tess and Angel (from Hardy's "Tess of the d'Urbervilles")? Finally, I must say Dr. Martin Ellingham and Louisa Glasson, a couple worthy of any great novel but, alas, a fictional TV couple. Why? Because Louisa teaches (or at least begins to teach) the doctor how to love someone. Simple as that.
