Many of my ideas come from dreams (both the kind I have at night and during the day). I am a lucid, active dreamer - something I learned to do after suffering debilitating nightmares as a child & preteen. I learned that I have control and could change the "plot" of my dreams. So, when that happens I usually remember a lot of details.
Then, there's the daydreaming. I am a people watcher, so when I see interesting strangers, I tend to make up stories for them in my head. Some of those little short stories are where I get ideas for my books. The latest book I'm working on was one of those stories about random strangers I saw on a hike. It led to When the Last Petal Falls (a contemporary romance in the Robeson Family Novels Series). That also led to two other books being planned out. The book that was supposed to come second ended up being published first (The Forgotten Wife). When the Last Petal Falls will be available some time in August or September of 2021.

The best thing about being a writer is that I'm doing something I love and I get to meet the best people in the world because of it.

I am currently working a Kindle Vella Serial: The Groupie Journal.
As of this morning (July 19, 2021), there are six episodes currently available and one will be uploaded tonight so that it will be live on Tuesday morning!
I am also working on MiMi Unleashed (S.H.E. Book 4).

NEVER STOP LEARNING!
No one else is going to do the work for you. Be serious about your goals and LEARN how to achieve them.
Do your research for EVERYTHING!
Even if my book takes place somewhere I'm familiar with, I still check out mileage (how long it takes to get from point A to point B), etc. If it's in a setting I'm not very familiar with, I research everything, including pictures & videos of the area. I can't tell you the number of times I've read books about the coast of NC having boulders/rocky shorelines and cliffs people could fall off - and it boils down to someone not doing their research. It takes moments to make sure you got something right, and it also only takes moments to lose a reader because you failed to fact check!

Writer's block is more about stress than anything else. Stress stifles the creative flow so I do what I need to in order to destress.
That usually involves hiking in the woods, playing around with images instead of words, or working with my pets (training).
Sometimes, it involves shifting gears and working on a different book for a while. When I come back to whichever one had me blocked, the fresh eyes I put on it tend to help get me back in the flow of things.
For me - having something else to work on is always key so that I still keep up with good habits (when I stop writing, it's harder to start again and I have to retrain myself back to my normal flow).

I have been listening to Pippa Grant's Bro Code Series on audiobook. They are spectacular. You can't help falling in love with each and every one of her characters! If you need a lighthearted pick-me-up with a little drama eased in too, then these books are definitely the ones to get!
