The most recent book that I put out was The Queen and I came up with that premise when I started researching bees, because I wanted to know about pheromones. Their colony and how it operated was so twisted to me, that I had to make it into a book. It was a done deal.

I'm a huge comic book and anime nerd, so I would say that my imagination has been expanded through those means, and also the bible, believe it or not. But I can draw inspiration anywhere. I was researching bees and came up with The Queen. Superkid was inspired by my dad's crazy stories about his childhood. The Light Book: Awakening is something that's inspired from a lot of places: the bible, marvel superheroes, Avatar: The Last Airbender. I haven't read The Giver since the seventh grade, but a little bit of the feel, I believe came from there. In Almost Alive, I reference a lot of demon possession stories that I've heard in church and a few that I've actually seen, as well as some sermons.
Anything and everything can be of inspiration. I let people inspire me, music inspire me, nature, news, the state of the world today. With one phrase, I came up with Sunrise Sunset. I listen to a lot of music when I write to set a tone and get me in a mood. It helps to immerse myself in my computer.

The sequel to Almost Alive, which is almost done. I have about three chapters left. I could probably finish it this weekend. Then, I'll continue the sequel for Superkid and Sunrise Sunset. I would like to have them all done before the end of the year and before I start something new. However, it is hard not to start a new project.

Just write. You're not a writer until you've got something down on paper. Let your passion consume you and get something done. Don't wait ten years and then say, "Oh, well, I have an idea for a book." People are impressed when you have something in your hands. And if you're a real writer, you won't be satisfied until you have something completed.

It's a tossup between the fact that you're doing what you love or the feeling that I get when I go to a school to read Superkid and the kids get all excited or when a fan comes up to me and tells me how much they love my story. It's exciting when someone else appreciates and shares your dream.

I don't ever have writer's block. I always let the story flow right from my brain and through my fingertips. There may be time when I have to rethink things, but even then, the creativeness never stops. I'm very blessed in that way. There will be times when I don't feel like finishing one part with all the description or it may be slightly difficult to get it all out, so I'll proceed with the dialogue, but I fill in the rest before I progress too far in the story. I never stop writing.
