As a Presbyterian minister/pastor, I read Elaine Pagels' The Gnostic Gospels. My response was these new gospels encourage a refreshing way to relate to Christ as being more seekers than believers who have all the answers. Because they expand the spiritual vision of the biblical gospels, uproot why believing doctrines defined Christianity, and teach knowing (gnosis) Christ as a friend, I believed these often condemned gospels should be better understood by the common person.
