I've studied a lot of children's literature and read a lot of fantasy novels over the years. I like fantasy because it can do and say so many different things. I don't really know where the idea came from. I just began to write, and the more I wrote, the more I researched and the more the story took shape.
I began with 2 characters, a scene, and a grey emotional landscape. Everything follows from the initial scene. It is here that the tone of the story is set.

I do a lot of thinking, and I suppose the best thing about being a writer is being able to put your ideas down on paper, and explore them through the creative process of writing.

I don't really get writers block. All I have to do is start and one thing follows another. If I'm feeling stuck, I go back over the last chapter and begin to edit, and by the time I've reached the end of that, I'm ready to move forward again.
