By not believing in it. If you're a professional writer -- or want to be -- you approach writing like any other job, which means showing up for work regardless of whether you're inspired to. As Stephen King says, you have to show up for work regardless of whether the muse shows up too.

It's cliché, but probably cliché because it works: Read a lot and write a lot. The best way to learn is by doing. The second-best way to learn is to see other people do it. You can learn as much from bad writing as you can from good.

Yesterday (July 1, 2024), I turned in the script for a new Star Wars comic project. Next up in the queue is the script for the third issue of a new creator-owned comic project. And I'm also at work on my next novel, which will be a supernatural thriller.

I get inspired to write by... reading. And, on occasion, watching something. Before I sit down to write, I'll typically rely on what I call a "tuning fork" to inspire me: I'll read or watch about five minutes worth of a story that's in the vein -- or tone -- of what I'm writing/chasing. Much the same way that watching a cooking show makes me hungry, reading or watching a great piece of writing inspires me to try to produce the same.

My new novel, IN ANY LIFETIME, is about the multiverse and it stems from an idea I've been noodling on for over a decade now. The idea came from combining two questions: What would it be like to visit parallel worlds? How far would I go for someone I loved?
