Did you know several book awards, book fairs, and book reviewers will not include books that have used AI?
For my part, I am a journalist and a writer by profession. Human Again is about my experience discovering AI, using it, and working through my emotions and fears.
My task is to write insightfully about AI, but not to use AI?
That’s like asking a war correspondent to report on combat without being there, or a food critic to review a kitchen without tasting the food.
Instead of learning how to judge intent and originality, many organizations (and advocates!) for authors and artists have banned the tool outright.
This creates an absurd paradox.
There is no question in my mind that we are living through a historical shift. We need, now more than ever, creatives and thought leaders who are willing to learn, argue with, play, explore, philosophize, push and document this incredible and terrifying artificial intelligence.
And we MUST make space for that movement.
Not all books that use AI can be judged equally, just like artists using AI can't all be lumped into one category.
We must make up our own minds, as individuals and as humans. What has value? What makes us think? What makes us feel? What's good and what's not? What's worthy? Why?
