J. Kinkade Well, it's part of a series so it follows on the heels of The Red Bridge, (Book Three, obviously). I love Mitch and Polly McKenna. They are very real to me. In my former life, I was an intelligence officer, but I am not Polly. She has a much more complicated past to deal with than I do. And Mitch? Well, my husband was a former Marine Corps aviator, so I based his job on that. They have similarities, of course, but Mitch is a conglomeration of many of our Marine friends.
J. Kinkade I usually have a person in mind. My books are pretty much all character-driven. I enjoy seeing what drives people to do the things they do. My first book (unpublished) was a fictionalized version of why my German grandfather joined the SS--Stormtroopers during WWII. It was inconceivable to me because he was such a sweet old man. Anyway, I wrote the book because I couldn't stop thinking about his ordeals.
J. Kinkade I am working on The Fifth Bridge (The McKenna Connection, Book Four). There are five books in the series so we're almost at the end. All my books have a foreign element to them, and this one takes place in one of my all time favorite cities: Istanbul.
J. Kinkade Read. Write. And have fun.
J. Kinkade Seeing the characters in your mind come alive in print. It's exhilarating. I also love making people enjoy a good read. When they say they can't wait for the next book, I can live on that comment alone for months.
J. Kinkade This is crazy, but I never get writer's block. Never have. Why? I think it's because I never leave a page blank for long. I just start typing and even if it's gibberish it gets the creative juices flowing and voila. I have my first (or last) chapter. Sometimes I start with the last chapter if I know precisely how it's going to end. And there you go. Hope my answer suffices.
