At the moment, I’m learning Japanese, so there are a lot of books by Japanese authors that I’m wanting to read (English translated as I don’t know enough kanji yet). For example, Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, Out by Natsuo Kirino, Audition by Ryu Murakami, and Banana Yoshimoto’s works (I’m currently reading Kitchen). Also there are some YA books that I need to catch up on.

Hmm, well, at the moment the only mystery in my life is wondering where the stray cats I feed live. I've tried following the one who isn't as timid, but she outwits me every time. And because they only come out at night, it makes it difficult.
So, trying to follow a cat to find out where it lives in the middle of the night could be an interesting start to a story. I can see the potential for a lot of shenanigans to occur.
The only other mystery I can think of that is a common occurrence in my life is 'where is my pen?' But that wouldn't make for an interesting story because my pen is usually in my hand.
