I’m revisiting three favorites: North Woods (Daniel Mason) for its living, breathing landscape; Summer of Night (Dan Simmons) for that perfect, slow-building dread; and Ghost Story (Peter Straub) because the chill in those pages doesn’t fade with time. I love how each novel makes place a character, something I try to do in my own work.
