Frank Carey Why am I still here? Why am I still alive? What is my purpose? Many of my books explore this question as my protagonists look for the answers to their very same questions
Frank Carey The best things about being a writer is the relaxation writing affords me, and the opportunity to work with my wife who is also a writer.
Frank Carey I don't handle stress well and writing is cathartic for me.
Frank Carey I am currently working on the second sequel to the book "Parthenon," a sci-fi/post-apocalyptic story inspired by such films as the "Omega Man" and the "Andromeda Strain." When I started "Parthenon." I had just finished writing the 50th or so book in the "League of Planetary Systems," universe and I felt I needed a change, so I tried a little near-future post-apocalypse. My current WIP is "Salvage" which takes place about 20 years after the events of "Parthenon" and its first sequel, "Deckhand." Salvage wraps up several loose ends I deliberately left in both previous stories.
Frank Carey I'm one of those individuals who don't get writer's block. Maybe it's because I spent 45 years of my life reading and thinking about stories. Maybe it has something to do with my inability to plot a story--I am an inveterate pantser--that drives me to continuously churn story ideas in my head. Sometimes, when I get stuck, I bake something. I find the preparation of pastries to be inspiring. As for writer's block? I have been truly blessed with not having experienced it--yet.
Frank Carey My current book is "Salvage," the sequel to "Deckhand," which is the sequel to "Parthenon." All three books are near-future, post-apocalyptic, science fiction which takes place in the late 21st century and early 22nd century. The "Salvage" rough draft is now in editing.
Frank Carey Write the darn first draft, then figure the rest out later. Without the first draft, you have nothing to work with. Think of your first draft as being a diamond in the rough. Without it, you have nothing to cut, polish, and mount.
