I came up with the idea for a Dotty a couple of years ago and mapped out the first book, but then had to abandon it due to my other writing committments. I finally sat down to write it in February of his year.

I take my inspiration from all sorts of things: my own childhood experiences; friends I had as a child; the children of friends I have now; observations and memories of all that goes on around me really.

I tend not to suffer from writer's block, so much as I suffer from interrupting children! If I'm struggling with the wording of a passage, I usually just go and make a cup if milky coffee and come back to it duly armed...
