Michael Buffalo Smith Not very well. I usually have to walk away and clear my head. Maybe play guitar a while of watch dumb TV.... I refuse to stare at the blank screen. That accomplishes nothing.
Michael Buffalo Smith My hero Stephen King said it best - READ ... A LOT! And write every day. Practice makes perfect. And read King's "On Writing," and the book "Writing Down the Bones."
Michael Buffalo Smith Several things. A collection of columns I have written over the years, kind of a Lewis Grizzard type thing. Working on a couple of new music books and a collection of short fiction, as well as two screenplays.
Michael Buffalo Smith I usually don't wait for inspiration. I generally set aside a couple of hours a day for fiction, and at least 5 hours for non fiction. There are times when inspiration comes though, usually after hearing a great new album or band.
Michael Buffalo Smith I have been writing about Southern Rock for over 20 years, and interviewing hundreds of musicians. I felt like an oral history would be a nice way of letting those musicians tell their own story.
