K.C. Murdarasi I really want to read "Lost for Words" by Stephanie Butland, but before that I'm finishing "The Golden Notebook" by Doris Lessing.
K.C. Murdarasi Heathcliff and Cathy from Wuthering Heights - which is a terrible answer, because they are never really together at all, and they ruin each other's lives. But maybe flawed relationships are more interesting - "All happy families are the same, every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." And the towering passion of their admittedly unhealthy relationship certainly stays with you: "Be with me always - take any form - drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! it is unutterable! I can not live without my life! I cannot live without my soul. "
K.C. Murdarasi One of the things I like best is that I can work where and when I like. I find that I work best in coffee shops and trains for fiction, and in nice quiet places for non-fiction. I find it much easier to work in the afternoon and evening than in the morning. It's also something you can do from anywhere in the world, which is important because I'd like to live abroad again later.

But the best bit, I suppose, is people reading your stories and enjoying them, or even being moved by them. I get such a kick whenever anyone says that they enjoyed my book - stuff that I just made up and wrote down!
K.C. Murdarasi I'm working on a novel set in first century BC Rome, about a pair of twins who find themselves on opposite sides of the civil war between Octavian (later the Emperor Augustus) and Mark Anthony. I'm calling it The Gates of Janus, after the temple of Janus whose gates were only shut during times of peace - and that wasn't very often in ancient Rome!
