For me, a love story and a romance aren’t necessarily the same thing.
A romance is often about whether two people end up together. A love story is about the impact people have on one another, whether they stay together or not.
Some of the most powerful relationships in fiction involve love, loyalty, sacrifice, grief, friendship, family, or shared history. They shape who the characters become, even if there is no traditional happy ending.
As a writer, I’ve always been more interested in how relationships reveal character. In my own work, romance often takes a back seat to survival, identity, family, trust, and the difficult choices people make under pressure. But those relationships still matter deeply because they influence the characters long after they are gone.

I find myself returning again and again to the idea of moral ambiguity and how people make choices when there is no clear right or wrong. I’m drawn to characters who live in the gray areas, where good intentions collide with flawed systems, impossible decisions, or conflicting loyalties.
The world we live in is not black and white, and neither are the worlds I build. Whether it is characters questioning the systems that shaped them, resisting authority, or confronting their own limits, I am always exploring what people become when the rules fail them. That tension between who we are and who we are asked to be is at the heart of my work.

Our world is in constant consumption mode, endlessly scrolling, streaming, and searching for the next hit of entertainment. We’ve normalized watching strangers on camera, celebrating drama, and craving spectacle. Add AI and deepfake into that landscape, and suddenly the ethical line becomes almost impossible to see.
That tension, between our appetite for entertainment and the technology willing to exploit it—is what sparked the story. I wanted to explore what happens when a show goes too far… and people keep watching anyway

I’d love to say I’d visit one of my own fictional worlds… but let’s be honest, every single one of them is terrifying. I created them, and even I wouldn’t survive a day. So I’d probably choose a world with fewer psychological experiments, fewer pirates, no biomechanical soldiers, and absolutely no AI manipulating my reality. Somewhere calm. Maybe with snacks.

I’ve always been fascinated by how easily a moment of deja vu, a feeling of doubt, or an unexplained event can shift the way we see ourselves. The biggest ‘mystery’ in my own life isn’t a dramatic incident, but the small, uncanny moments where we question ourselves. Times when I’m certain something happened one way, only to discover I misremembered, or someone else recalls it differently. Those subtle cracks in perception inspire much of my writing.
That lingering question, what if your own mind isn’t the most reliable witness? That is the kind of mystery that sparks entire novels for me.
