Elaine, forgive me for taking to long to respond. I'm on major deadline with my new book and haven't done anything but work round-the-clock! The answer is, I have no doubt that Sloane and Derek will appear again, either in their own book or in a Forensic Instincts book. They were two of my favorite characters to write and I'd love to revisit them and their lives, both personal and professional. When that time comes, I'll be sure to let all my readers know!

Since I'm terrified to read horror, here's my two-sentence horror story: I once stepped outside my comfort zone by taking the classic novel Thinner out of the library, never knowing that Richard Bachman was, in fact, Stephen King. I haven't slept since.

Without a doubt I would go to Neverland and never grow up!

My research into Malta just made it exactly the right place for the aspect of THE BLACK DIAMOND you're referring to. Also, I had a Maltese at the time and I'd looked into his roots, so that was an added incentive.

This summer is a very different one for me. I'm going to be a grandma (a very young one! :)) in the fall. So I'll be checking out children's books in a determined frenzy so I can read the very best ones to my new granddaughter when she comes. The love of reading can never come too soon. So if anyone has suggestions for me, I'd be delighted to hear them!

There are so many great children's books - where to start? My personal book I love to read to my grandchildren is "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus"

When I was a little girl of about four, I went into the post office with my mother. On the wall were a series of posters of the FBI’s most wanted. I pointed to one of the pictures and said loudly to my mother, “Mommy, there’s Uncle Louie!” My mother was mortified and told me to be quiet and that it wasn’t Uncle Louie (which, of course, it wasn’t). But I was insistent. The postal clerk interjected and said to my mother, “Madam, sometimes children see things that adults don’t. Maybe we should look into this.” It took my mother quite a while to convince the clerk that the killer in the photo was NOT a relative of ours. Still, he looked so much like him. Many years have passed and I’ve still often wondered if poor, innocent Uncle Louie had a diabolical look-alike out there somewhere who was a serial killer.

This was one tough question! I've been pondering it ever since you sent it. Mentally, I ran through the great couples in literature who I've loved throughout the years. Ultimately, I went in entirely different direction: Beauty and the Beast. Why? Because they have a strange but wonderful, powerful chemistry, they grow as people both separately and together, they learn from each other, they build their relationship on mutual respect and trust, and (of course) they both love books and share that love with each other!

Hi Fred. The truth? Each book I'm currently writing is my most favorite and least favorite all at once. I'm immersed in the characters and the storyline, so I'm all in. At the same time, I'm my own worst critic, so I see every flaw that needs to be addressed and every red herring that needs to be tweaked. Objectivity and creativity don't really merge well together. Right now, I'm loving writing the Forensic Instincts team, so that makes their books my favorites. Hope that answers your question. Have a Happy New Year!

Great question, Fred! Actually, I love the suspense/thriller genre most of all, so that's definitely what I would pick up and read if I were relaxing. I just wish I had more time to relax and read!

Thanks, April! I'm working on the next book in the Forensic Instincts series right now, and it looks like it will be a Fall 2017 release. I appreciate your patience, since crafting the FI team's adventures takes months of plotting and research.

Hi, Melissa. Casey, and the entire Forensic Instincts team, will be back in their next thriller, THE SILENCE THAT SPEAKS, to be released on April 28th (just a month away!). And, yes, it will simultaneously be released in an audio edition. You can go to my website at: andreakane.com and pre-order now. I hope the story keeps you at the edge of your seat!

Hi, Rhonda. I care a great deal about what my readers think, so, yes, I do read reviews-- if they're constructive. I don't read the reviews meant to be cruel or denigrating, because they're harmful and slow down my writing process. As for the star system, I don't like to dwell on how many stars I have (although I've been very lucky with my reader reaction). I just work my hardest to give my readers the very best books I can. That's my job, and I love it!

This one was a combination of a medical/hospital "what if", and an answer to my readers' requests to write a book for Forensic Instincts' Navy SEAL Marc Devereaux. I don't know which I loved more-- creating and writing Madeline or developing the plot that she inspired. I'm going to stop there, because I don't want to give anything away to my readers. They've waited so long for Marc's book and I don't want to spoil their enjoyment!

This is a tough one. My characters inspire me, the what-if's that are clamoring at my brain inspire me, and the fact that I'm happiest when I'm writing inspires me. That doesn't mean I'm always in forward motion. Since I can't seem to write anything but complicated, I sometimes get tangled up in my own thoughts, and I need to take a break to smooth out the wrinkles in my plot. Also, I need dead silence. No music, no talking, no noise (except my puppy's snoring). So the creative conditions have to be right for inspiration to occur.

I just finished the 4th book in the Forensic Instincts series. It's called THE SILENCE THAT SPEAKS, and it's due out in 1/15. I won't be resting for long, because the next Forensic Instincts novel is calling me, demanding to be written!

Love what you do and have the perseverance to do it. Writing is a hard path to follow, and there are crushing disappointments and tons of roadblocks. But don't give up, and don't compare yourself with other writers. Just be yourself and write the best book you can.

Besides the obvious answer of doing what I love, I'd say equity. Given that there's very little of that in real life, I love having the ability to create it in my novels. For the most part, the "bad guys" get punished, the "good guys" prevail, and I'm a happy camper. Occasionally it doesn't happen that way, but that's the book's decision, not mine. I'd always choose to go for the happy, satisfying ending.

I turn to my research. It gives my "right brain" the reprieve that it needs, but still makes me feel productive. I love learning more about law enforcement, medicine, psychology (normal and abnormal), behavioral analysis-- and any other subjects that are tied to my current novel. And sometimes my "what if" kicks in, and then I'm back in business!
