Patrick Hodges Gosh, what a question! My life has no mystery in it, I'm an open book! (author joke)
Patrick Hodges Write what you know. Write from the heart, and from the mind. There is no perfect way to write, no matter what the so-called "experts" say.

And most of all, there are no limits.
Patrick Hodges Twofold. First off, having a story that you crafted in your own head actually manifested in physical form... well, there's just nothing like it. And having people compliment you on it... well, there's nothing like that either.

Whether you write to amuse, inspire or entertain others or whether writing is just an itch you have to scratch, seeing a project through from start to finish and realizing one's goal of being a writer is probably the best thing.
Patrick Hodges I haven't had to deal with it, yet... my first draft of Joshua's Island, which I wrote in five days, was over 40,000 words. The nearly 25,000 words that were added after that came fairly easily, after getting great feedback from great people.

Hypothetically, I would say that if I get stuck, the best thing would be to just walk away for a few days, and then come at it fresh.
Patrick Hodges I am looking to do a sequel, involving the same setting (the school) and many of the characters, but three years later. One character in particular, a fifth-grader named Kelsey, has a lot of potential, and I wanted to craft a story with her as the main character. Right now, I'm thinking up possible story lines. Whether that germinates into a full-blown novel, only time will tell.
Patrick Hodges I was overcome by a wave of nostalgia in early 2014, and I started remembering my middle-school days. I have a lot of good memories, but just as many bad ones. I started playing a fantasy in my head of how I wish my middle-school years could have gone if I'd been able to create my own destiny. Nine months later, I had a story with a beginning, middle and end, and I figured, "I should probably write this down."

Three months and countless revisions later, my finished product is now ready for the world to see. My greatest wish is that everyone who reads it can take something positive from it.
