Bill Schelly I don't have writer's block. But then, I write non-fiction, so I'm reflecting the truth of historical events, and other factual things. That's not the same as having to come up with new characters and a new story each time. There are times when a project can seem overwhelming, but from experience I know that if I just write 1,000 words six days a week, the book will get done eventually. So take it a day at a time.

Bill Schelly Generally, when I write biographies, I gravitate toward underdogs. People who haven't been properly or fully considered for the greatness of their work or contributions. So I want to wake the world up!! This motivates me a great deal. Other times, publishers have asked me to write books. Gary Groth of Fantagraphics Books suggested I write a definitive biography of Harvey Kurtzman. Since I had been a fan of his since I was 11 years old--reading the old MAD paperbacks--I immediately warmed to the idea.
Bill Schelly My most recently published book is John Stanley, Giving Life to Little Lulu. I got the idea from Jeff Gelb, my best friend and a HUGE fan of Stanley's work as writer and artist of Little Lulu from 1945 to 1958. I started reading the stories about 5 years ago, and was (and still am) so impressed by his story-telling skills. What a supremely talented comic book guy! So, I decided that someone needed to tell his story, and that someone was going to be yours truly.
