Paula Dunning My most recent book is so far my only book, and the idea had existed for a long time--during the years Jack and I were farming--but I had conceived of it as a series of short stories. Those years continued to be the focus of the work, but once I began to see it as an actual memoir, it developed a life of its own.

I'll be thinking "I really do need to be writing" and I'll happen on a half-baked idea that seems to have potential. And sometimes, it actually does.

Paula Dunning Not very well, I'm afraid. I didn't become serious about writing until my mid-60s, at which point I found it very hard to establish the kind of disciplined routine that others say is necessary to keep writing through the dry spells.
