Keep writing to find your style, interests and genre. You need plenty of practice to become fluent at putting your thoughts and feelings onto paper.

It is a great way to express what I feel, think and experience and then to share all this with others.

I need to be fresh and in no way tired to write. So I make sure I get plenty of sleep when I'm writing a book. I don't experience writer's block. I think the best way to get down to writing if you're not feeling inspired is to jot down notes or just to write down your thoughts as though you were chatting with a friend. It's good for me not to put myself under pressure to write brilliant prose all the time. There will be plenty of time for edits. Writing ideas roughly is good enough to get me started.

'Bouquet of White Roses: Quest for truth about Aunt Sue and Me'. It is a true story, about the connection I have always felt with my aunt Sue who died tragically in 1932 from TB, at the age of 20. I never knew Sue but I have also always been fascinated by the 1920s, even in childhood, being captivated by the Charleston. In adulthood I have loved researching this period, in which both Harry Clarke and Arthur Kingsley Porter lived, two men I have written about and researched for several years. When I was living in Dublin at the age of 26, I went for a spiritual reading and I was stunned when I was told that I had lived before in the 1920s, as a family member who had died in her 20s. This is at the heart of my book, my search to find the truth about my connection with my aunt Sue.

I usually have an idea about a book for quite a while before I begin writing. I need to know that the idea and storyline are interesting enough to keep me researching and writing for many months. I wait until I am sure that I have enough passion about this book to keep chipping away at it and ultimately to complete it.

I have just completed an autobiography, 'Bouquet of White Roses: Quest for Truth about my Aunt Sue and Me', available on Amazon. I need to take a break to recharge the batteries and may look at writing again in the New Year.
