For me, it's the escape of another world, another story. I write what plays out like a movie in my head, and I write to find out what happens next.

Normally, I have a handful of projects going at once. When I run into a situation where I'm bored with one, I'll switch to a different story. Always keep writing, though. Don't stop. Even if the scene you manage to get out isn't going to be used later, it's all good practice.
