Αλέξανδρος Γ. Τσαγκαρέλλης It so happened that on the 40th anniversary of the Greeks uprising against the Papadopoulos' Junta, when at it's peak, on the 17th of November, 1973, when the students of the Polytechnic University in Athens decided they could not bear with the colonels' dictatorship anymore, I was reading a book, written by an old friend of the family who had been a member of the Greek Resistance during the German occupation and further got involved in the subsequent Greek civil war. Then, it struck me that the desire for democracy, the desire for freedom, and the struggle for it is always present, and the events of 1973 that led to the Junta's downfall were interlocked with the ever-alive, ever-existing desire to pursue a democratic society,. So, I thought, there's definitely a connection between the action taken in the Polytechnic University and Greece's recent history, something no-one had ever (to my knowledge) spoke, wrote, or even hinted, so far.
On the other hand, I was a young man at the time, and those events are still with me, for I had a small role to play, a role that I wanted to be much more important but was hindered for reasons beyond my control. I therefore saw it as an opportunity to add a little bit to that. I only hope I did it succesfuly.
