Doris Gaines Rapp I have written four books and re-released another in the last year. So far I haven't gotten writer's block. I keep a jigsaw puzzle in an open window at the bottom of my screen, also my 2 email accounts, Facebook, Goodreads, and LinkedIn in other open windows. If my mind needs to be "entertained" while I'm writing, I put a few pieces of puzzle in place or check in with social media. When I need to cut some words, paragraph or other data, I put it in another file called "stuff" so I don't lose my great words of prose. You will find ways to "entertain your mind as you go along.
Doris Gaines Rapp Oh wow! If you aren't having the best time of your life, re-think that writing-thing. I love scheduling book signings and meeting all the great readers in the stores. I have had 8 or 9 at Barnes and Noble stores across the country as I travel in the last year. The stores have been great and the readers are fantastic! Remember, unless you're an A-list writer, a book signing is not about selling books. It's about meeting people and getting your name and book info out to the public. I hand out business-card-size cards with pictures of my books on them and their ISBN numbers while at the signing table. And I have a ball!!!
Doris Gaines Rapp Write, write, write - read, read, read. And, stop calling yourself an "aspiring writer." Call yourself "an Author." You don't need anyone's permission to be an author. If you write, you are an author. Believe in yourself! God does!
Doris Gaines Rapp Finishing an Historical Novel/family biography about the g-g-g grandmother of a friend: Hiawassee - Child of the Meadow. Hiawassee was a Cherokee Indian who came to live in Indiana with her husband. It will be available to order from any bookstore or on line on August 4, 2014 - in paperback or ebook.
The second in my trilogy - Length of Days will be out in the fall. Length of Days - Beyond the Valley. Length of Days - The Age of Silence (book 1) is available to order from any bookstore or on line. It too will be in print and as an ebook.
Doris Gaines Rapp Like I said, usually during some quiet time when my mind is at rest. But then, a child's picture book and story came to mind a few weeks ago when I saw an animal walking down the sidewalk and wondered where it was going.
Doris Gaines Rapp They come to me when my mind is at rest, like during prayer time at church. Then, I just write and describe the pictures I see in my mind about the characters and scenes.
