Meadow Taylor My advice for aspiring writers is to read and write as much as you can. Just like with an instrument or a sport, to get better, you need to practice. Read and write about writing, about the subject matter of your book, and also unrelated material - that too can be grist for the mill. Good luck!
Meadow Taylor I find the best way to deal with writer's block is to go for a walk. It helps stimulate the creative juices and free my mind to go in new directions. I've solved many a plot problem this way. I also find watching a tv show or movie or reading a book can also get me over a wall - I might find inspiration there or study it for plotting and characterization.
Meadow Taylor I am planning to reread Pride & Prejudice this summer and maybe more Jane Austen too. If you too like Jane Austen, I recommend Sittenfeld's update of P&P called Eligible - great fun.
Meadow Taylor The best part about being a writer is the research. I love learning about a new place, its history, its culture, its people. If at all possible, I visit the location, because there's nothing like seeing and being in a place to really get a feel for it. I really enjoy weaving all those details into my story, to make it feel as real as possible.
Meadow Taylor As in most things, writing is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. Sometimes you just have to sit at the keyboard and WRITE, even if you don't feel like it. However, I do get inspiration from various sources, including tv shows, movies, books, and being out in the world, in cities and in nature. Sometimes inspiration can strike from the most unexpected people, places, or conversations. For The Billionaire Secret's, my biggest inspiration was Jane Eyre. I wanted to write an updated version of Bronte's classic. I hope you enjoy it!
