The Cat Vanishes, due out from Signature Editions in Oct. 2018, came out of the first Maples Mystery, The Cat Among Us. I so loved the setting and characters (and the cats, of course!), that as soon as I finished the first one, I wanted to continue with the second. There are a third and fourth book in the series already written but I guess we'll have to wait a while for them to be published!

My imagination just switched on in 2007 and hasn't yet switched off. It's like all the information I've amassed and all the experiences I've had, all the people I've known and all the places I've been or wanted to be, are mixing in my head in new ways and asking to be written down.

I love being self-employed, have been a lifelong freelance musician and music teacher. I've been working at writing full-time since 2007 and love the solitude of the daily discipline - kind of like the practice time necessary to be a good musician.

I haven't yet experienced writer's block. When I write a novel, I am usually so engaged with my characters and what they're going to do next, that I enjoy myself writing fast. It's different with poetry, but again, I don't set out to write a poem, one asks to be written.
