Mel Thorn I wake up feeling inspired. All I can think about, as soon as I get out of bed, is the next thing I'm going to write: plot lines, characters, dialogue, twist endings, all of it. The very thought of delving into those adventures gets me so excited and thrilled. Writing keeps me in a positive mood, and ensures that I remain busy. The important thing is that writing should be fun for you; more than just a job or career.
Mel Thorn Several things. My next novel is complete, so I'm working on its cover. I'm working on learning new weaves of chainmaille. I've created a list of things I want and hope to draw soon. I'm writing fan-fiction as well, and blogging. I never stop working, really. I love to keep my hands busy.
Mel Thorn Don't give up. There will be times when you write something people don't really like. Just start something new and try again, and do your best. Doing your best is all anyone can really ask of you. If you wake up thinking about stories you can't wait to write down, you know you have an unstoppable passion for it, so don't let it go to waste.
Mel Thorn Watching my fictional characters grow as though they're real people. To see them trip over themselves, make mistakes, learn from their experiences, is a lot like raising a family that I never had in reality. Giving them a world of their own and letting them develop is probably my favorite thing about writing.
Mel Thorn Usually when I get writer's block for one thing I'm working on, I'll suddenly get ideas for another thing, so I like to work on different projects at once so that writer's block almost never happens! Or I'll draw or craft something and then the ideas will hit me later. A little pacing helps, too.
Mel Thorn The idea for my most recent novel (For the Sake of Happiness) came from a nightmare I had that I developed and expanded into a full-length story the following day. As a matter of fact, a lot of my ideas come from dreams.
