Though the ending of LOST DOGS was not what I would have wanted, sometimes, stories write themselves. Buddy is ultimately a tragic figure. The same fixation that drove him to pursue his human family kept him from moving on and forming a similar attachment to Roy. Consumed by grief, Buddy saw no other alternative than to leave all elements of his former life behind.
Sally, in contrast, is much more adaptable: recall that she lived with another human family before joining Buddy's.
