I'd rather be writing than anything else, just about. I try to write 3 hours a day, 9 to 12. I've always got a story developing in my mind.
It doesn't hurt that my author daughter (Elizabeth A Reeves) is willing to talk books and writing just about any time.
My husband is also an author. And he's willing to listen to each new chapter at the end of my writing blocks. It's always nice to have an appreciative audience.

My most recent book is That Old Pink Victorian on Main Street. It's a real house we seriously considered buying in a small town we lived in in the Pacific Northwest. But we didn't do it. It didn't have up-to-date electric, for one thing.
In my story, the disrepair of the proud old family home is an important factor in the plot.
The real house also has a veggie garden out back, and it's around the corner from the train depot and farmers market, just as in the story.
And one other major factor is that if we had lived there in that old Victorian, we wouldn't have had to own a car, if we were content to stay in town. And that turns out to be important for young Lily (10) and her mother Kate.
So, one house in one small town was a major inspiration for That Old Pink Victorian. (This book will be published very soon.)
Thanks for asking.

I write something I want to write, even if it doesn't fit at the moment. And then I just keep on going. I especially like to have conversations between characters that don't fit into the book, just to have a visit with them myself or to eavesdrop on a conversation between the two of them. My fingers do the transcription of course.
